Flood Relief Assistance Programme – Ditva Cyclone 2025

In response to the severe humanitarian impact of the Ditva Cyclone of 2025, the Sarana Wimala Gilāna Bhikkhu Upasthāna Foundation implemented a comprehensive Flood Relief Assistance Programme to support families affected across several regions. The initiative was undertaken with the guidance and blessings of the Venerable Maha Sangha, whose leadership ensured that aid reached the most vulnerable households with dignity and care. The cyclone caused extensive flooding, displacing communities and disrupting access to essential resources. Recognising the urgent need for coordinated assistance, the Foundation organised a structured relief effort targeting 150 affected families in Kaduwela, Kolonnawa, and Panideniya (Peradeniya). The programme was executed in three phases, each designed to address immediate survival needs as well as short-term household recovery: 1. Emergency Nutrition and Hydration • Distribution of safe drinking water • Provision of freshly prepared meals to families unable to cook due to flood damage 2. Health, Hygiene, and Clothing Support • Supply of clothing and essential garments • Distribution of sanitary and hygiene items to prevent waterborne illnesses and maintain personal wellbeing 3. Household Recovery Assistance • Provision of basic kitchen utensils and equipment • Distribution of essential bedroom items to help families reestablish safe and functional living spaces
